Transportation: Getting to and Around Portland

Political Networks Conference (POLNET) 2015

University Place Hotel is 13.5 miles from the Portland International Airport (PDX). If you rent a car (not necessary for enjoying many things in Portland), see this google map with driving directions from the airport to the hotel. Note that parking at the hotel is $15 per day.

The light rail ride (MAX) from PDX to the hotel costs $2.50 for adults and takes about 50 minutes. The MAX stop closest to University Place is SW 5th and Jackson on the Green line. It's less than a 5 minute walk to the hotel from SW 5th and Jackson. From the airport, take the Red line to Lloyd Center Mall (8 stops) and then transfer to the Green line; see this google map with light rail directions. The brand new Orange MAX line is directly in front of University Place Hotel on Lincoln street. Unfortunately, this new line doesn't open until Fall 2015.

A taxi from the Portland airport to University Place Hotel will cost about $45.00. Taxis are located outside of the baggage claim area. If you are traveling during rush hour (3-6pm), light rail might be the best way to get to the hotel.

Driving from the airport:

  • Get on I-205 S from NE Airport Way
  • Take exit 21B for I-84 W/US-30 W toward Portland
  • Take the exit on the left toward Beaverton/Salem
  • Merge onto I-5 S
  • Keep left at the fork to continue on I-405 N, follow signs for City Center/Beaverton/Interstate 405/US 26
  • Take exit 1B for 4th Avenue
  • Turn right onto SW Lincoln St
  • Hotel will be on the right

Map of downtown Portland

Portland is a very walkable city with short blocks. Our mass transit (Trimet) is one of the best in the nation. An all day Trimet pass is $5.00 and is good for buses, light rail (MAX), and the streetcar. You can purchase paperless tickets using the free Trimet app on your phone. You can plan any trip at trimet.org.
